Got to Miami last night for the DG cruise that leaves tomorrow. Today Robyn and I played a round at Kendall Indian Hammocks, then drove down to Key West for the afternoon. Traffic was horrible on the drive down, it took 45 minutes longer than the trip back, almost 4 hours. Some pictures from today and yesterday are up in the gallery here.
More photos up! I'll be uploading throughout the cruise, as well !!

This past Saturday was the 2009 Alabama Sports Festival. Luke, Robyn, Larry and I piled in the van and drove up to Montevallo for the disc golf competition. I helped run the tourney, trying to get ready to run the one in October here in Montgomery. About 75 people showed up, despite temperatures in the high 90's, with a heat index nearing 110??. After the two rounds of 18 holes were finished, Luke had a gold medal in Juniors, Robyn a silver in the Women's Intermediate, and I took silver in the Advanced Masters division (over 40). Everyone seemed to have a great time, and we made some new friends too.

Excellent trip to Mississippi last weekend for disc golf, and just to get away. I was more than a little disappointed with the weather; it poured rain Friday evening and Saturday morning. All the rain made the course too muddy for Thomas to get out with us, so he spent the entire weekend cooped up in the cabin. Robyn won the Women's division, beating out two others, and Sean came in third in Juniors. I finished out of the money for the first time in my career; mainly due to horrible putting in the first round. I shot six over in the first round, two over in the second. I kinda new it was going to be one of those days when I got penalized two throws for turning in an incorrect scorecard... Tried to give myself a 67 when I actually threw 66. So, I officially ended up with a 68. I was less dissatisfied with the second round, even though I made a few stupid bogeys on easy holes. The good news is, the course is not extremely long and my elbow held up well. I threw a four-under 50 at AUM on Tuesday this week, and again Yesterday. Yesterday I missed short (<15 feet) birdie putts on 5, 14, 15, and 17, so it easily could have been 8 under. Hopefully putting practice this afternoon will get me ready for the Alabama Sports Festival tournament tomorrow!

Robyn, Sean and I went up to Birmingham for the Firehouse Shelter Classic Disc Golf tourney this past Saturday. It's a great event, they raise lots of money for the local homeless shelter. Prizes were donated for raffles, and tickets could only be bartered for with non-perishable food items, not bought. There was a huge turnout. It was so big, in fact, the TD had to put people out on all 24 holes of the course.... So we played two rounds of 24 holes. We were very tired when we got home. Robyn and I hopped in the spa for a while, it felt great. We both think that was the only reason we could even get out of bed the next day!
Robyn took 3rd in the Women's Intermediate division, Sean took 2nd in Junior boys, and I managed 6th in the Recreational division, after a horrid opening round. If I had thrown two rounds of +3 instead of +12, +3, I would have tied for first. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't gripe too much, we all brought home prizes, even though mine was a replacement from the guys at DGB since somebody walked off with my prize pack... The pros played a "skins game" of six holes after the tourney was over; that was fun to watch. One of the guys sank a 50-foot putt for five skins at $100 each, for a total of $500. There's pictures of the entire event over in the gallery. I did find out this weekend I'm still not completely over the elbow problem... I ended up pulling off the support strap a few holes into the second round; I just couldn't put worth a darn wearing the thing. A little more "light duty", and some putting practice, and I'll be less likely to embarrass myself next outing ;).
