I'm in the process of moving extents in a logical volume under LVM2 from a stopgap 1-drive raid array (long story) to a new 2-drive raid 1 array. What that means to you: the drive where all the pools website info is stored is reading data as fast as it can to move it to the new drive array. Thus, performance of the website might be a bit slow for the next few hours. All this is being done so the old drive can be freed up to add to the new array, providing a mirrored copy (again) in case we have drive problems. Odd, seems it happens every year. Last year, the Raid 1 configuration saved us, even though there were some tense moments running on one drive until the replacement for the failed one came in. This year, I have a spare 750GB drive on-site, just in case... ;-)

In a moment of weakness, I called my DSL provider and asked if I could get the 6Mb/s DSL, half expecting to get a hearty laugh as my response... To my amazement, they said yes! So, now we have the big pipe !! We might not be getting the full 6 meg, as you can see from this graph, but that speed test was done while the kids were surfing the web... Hopefully the site's responsiveness will increase.

I finally got around to re-writing the "motion camera" module. The previews hadn't worked in quite a while. I didn't notice when an update to motion or PHP had broken it, so this was almost a complete re-write. Although the normal user can't see it, I'm pretty proud of the new Admin interface, too. Checkboxes instead of radio buttons for the deletion of items allows for deleting multiple items at once, which seems to be prefrerable most of the time. Some of the thunderstorms we've had lately will generate 20-30 captures overnight; lightning reflecting off the wet pavement and car hoods triggers a capture almost every time...

I've done as much as I can to reload the website after the hard drive failure.... Bad backups are bad news. Remember, a backup isn't good unless you can restore it... Some of the photos may be lost, I have to check the last DVD I burned to see if there's anything on it that's not in the gallery. I also haven't gotten around to putting the Disc Golf .KMZ files up in the download area, but I should get to that this afternoon while I'm updating the scores for the Football Pools website.

I spent my extra hour today chasing games... Free games! All you need is a Linux box. So, take that old Pentium 4 box out of the closet (or just don't put it in the closet!), Grab the latest Fedora distro, and start installing! You'll be happy you did. A few hours to get it installed and configured, and then you can download some really spiffy games for FREE....
